Thermamax has now developed the world’s first hydrophobic insulation fibre for high-temperature applications in the Automotive, On-Highway and Off-Highway market sectors.

In wet weather or during engine washing, the porous fibre material used in traditional insulation systems quickly becomes saturated, particularly in vehicle underfloor installations. The consequence is a delayed light-off characteristic in the exhaust aftertreatment system as this loses valuable heat in having to dry the fibre. Fuel consumption and emissions will also be correspondingly higher during this phase. The durability of the insulation system is also adversely affected due to the salt and dirt deposits and water accumulating in the fibre. Insulation systems installed on a vehicle underfloor, such as DPF and SCR modules, silencers or thermo-acoustic systems can be particularly affected.
Thanks to this newly developed Tmax-DryTec technology the insulation fibre is water-repellent and the high-temperature insulation lasts longer and has a better performance. As a result, compliance with current and future emission regulations is made easier.
