Thermamax supports „Formula Student“ Racing Teams

They develop and build complete racing cars, hold their races on the major race tracks – and they’re students. With the „Formula Student“ race series, budding engineers want to show they have what it takes to perform on the world stage, and Thermamax is proud to be helping five German teams on this journey !

The design competition, which was started in 1981 by the USA-based Society of Automotive Engineers as „Formula SAE“, came first to England as the „Formula Student“ and then to Germany in 2006.

The task facing the participating students and their racing stables is a demanding one: the prototypes are designed, built and race-prepared by the students, with support from their respective college engineering faculties.

The only difference to normal formula racing is in „Formula Student“ it’s not the team with the fastest car that wins – it’s the team with the best overall package of design, racing performance, financial management and sales arguments. In this way the students are preparing themselves for the real-life demands they will meet in the automobile industry.

Thermamax Managing Director Michael Becker: „From what we were hearing from „Formula Student“ things went well right from the start. As we were already active in formula racing we saw this as a good opportunity to help young people“.

Since 2010 Thermamax has been actively supporting five student racing stables :

  • Team KaRaceIng (KIT Karlsruhe)
  • Team High-Speed (Fachhochschule Karlsruhe)
  • Team Joenneum Racing ( FH Joanneum Graz)
  • Team Racetech ( TU Bergakademie Freiberg)
  • Team WOB-Racing (Ostfalia Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften)

Individual insulation solutions, for example for exhaust manifolds as well as other general insulation materials, are already being supplied, and further insulation measures for turbochargers are currently in design.
